Biography

huw

Huw currently holds the position of Assistant Director of Music and Chapel Organist at Stowe School, and alongside this pursues a career as a freelance organist, accompanist and choral director in the South of England.

Huw is a recent organ scholar and music graduate of Robinson College, Cambridge. In his first year there, he gained the diploma of associateship (ARCO) of the Royal College of Organists. He was conferred the diploma of fellowship (FRCO) in the winter of 2010. He currently studies organ with Thomas Trotter, singing with Judy Rees and the Alexander Technique with Peter Brierley. Huw learned piano with Raymond Fischer and conducting with Alan Tongue, and has previously studied organ with the international recitalist, David Goode, for six years.

For most of his time at Cambridge, Huw directed the chapel choir of around 24 members. During this time, the choir made two professionally produced CDs and toured Canada and the West Country. In addition, the choir made visits to no fewer than six cathedrals, including St Paul's and Southwark, for which Huw either directed or accompanied.

Recent engagements have included a performance of Handel's Organ Concerto in F Op. 4 No. 5 with the Haileybury String Orchestra, an organ recital at Reading Town Hall (achieving that venue's second highest ever attendance), the Berkshire Organists' Association AGM recital, and two well-attended piano recitals in Cambridge.
